Resided in: Springfield, Tennessee

Jason Cavin Prater, age 48, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Springfield, Tennessee, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born on January 20, 1977, Jason grew up in Gray Summit, Missouri, and attended Pacific High School. Jason’s adventures took him all over the country, but he ultimately settled in Springfield, Tennessee, with his family. He found joy and peace in life’s simple pleasures, whether cheering from the stands at a baseball field, watching a wrestling match from the bleachers, or casting a line along a quiet riverbank. He especially enjoyed noodling, embracing the thrill and challenge it brought. A loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, Jason’s passion for sports was matched only by his devotion to his family.

Jason was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a wonderful brother and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Vanessa (nee Vasquez). He leaves behind his children: Dallas Prater, Alexus Prater, Rolen Prater, and Warner Prater; and his beloved grandson, Ezra Schwarz. His memory will also be carried on by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Necia and Robert Gober; sisters Ellen Haynes, Ashley Haynes, and Annie Warmbrodt (nee Haynes) and her husband Don; and nieces and nephews Marshall Wainwright, Andrea Lane, Katie Spivey, Raymond Haynes, Timmy Hake, Gregory Hake, Danica Warmbrodt, Donnie Warmbrodt, and Delilah Warmbrodt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Prater; his mother, Laura Haynes (nee Greenwood); his stepfather, Marshall Haynes III; and many other loved ones.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 10, at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland City, Tennessee.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and loved him.
